Welcome back to the Sped Prep Academy Podcast, your go-to space for all things special education!

In our last episode, Episode 144, I discussed "Seven Questions to Help Special Education Teachers Reflect." If you haven't had a chance to listen, go back and check it out. it's a perfect way to set the tone for the New Year.

Today, I'm joined by my fantastic co-host with a new segment for the new year called "Ask Us Anything." Last year, we came up with a list of topics we thought teachers might want to learn about and put them on a random selection generator, but after reflecting about what teacher’s really need and getting questions from teachers within my district, I had the idea of doing an “Ask Us Anything” series where listeners of the podcast, members of my Facebook group and followers of my Instagram page could ask us the questions that are on their minds and provide a more tailored discussion on challenges faced by so many special educators.

Ask Us Anything Series: Part 1

If you had $1,000 for your classroom, what would you spend it on?

  • Furniture
  • Storage

  • Sensory space materials
  • Flexible seating options
  • IEP meeting supplies

How would you handle a paraprofessional who lacks initiative?

  • Always assume positive intent

  • Personal stories of effectively addressing challenges with paraprofessionals and fostering a collaborative environment
  • Strategies for involving paraprofessionals in decision-making
  • Recognizing their strengths and weaknesses through a para interest survey
